science experiment

Post by words4funnn »

I am doing a science fair project and I neeed help. I take a plate put some water on it and then place a piece of strawberry in the middle of the water on the plate. Next I put a match in the middle of the strawberry and light it. Cover the match with a glass. The flame goes out and then all the water is sucked inside the glass. I know that the heat of the match heats up the air and then when it cools down it creates a vacuum and sucks up all the water into the glass. However I cant find anything on the internet to help with the explaination or scienctific name for it. Can you please help me? Thank you.

Try searching for and reading about the "Ideal Gas Law". So far, you have a "demonstration" of a physics principle and not something that involves any scientific inquiry. I recommend that you read up about the Scientific Method in the Science Fair Project Guide to better understand what it takes to do a good Science Fair Project, one that actually asks a question, forms a guess (Hypothesis) and attempts to investigate and prove/disprove the guess (in other words, utilizes the scientific method).
