goldfish chemicals

Post by swimmy »

What exactly do goldfish chemicals do? I tried to look it up, but I only found websites selling them and general care of goldfish. Also, I'm a little stuck as to how to conduct an experiment to see whether goldfish chemicals are useful.
Can I just do measurements of the water, or do I need to involve the fish? Also, how much water should I use?
Thanks,

Hi Swimmy,
Welcome to the Ask an Expert forums. I would recommend as a first step to identify the chemicals. If you are using a commercial product, there might be a variety of chemicals in the product. Then you can conduct some background research & reading on those particular chemicals.
How you conduct your experiments - with measurements of water and/or fish - will depend on the scientific question that you eventually decide to address. One issue to keep in mind is that there are restrictions on use of vertebrates in science fair projects.

Hopefully other experts will have more to add.

Looking forward to hearing more.
