Biological Resources

Post by ericjang »

Hi all,

I am planning to use Turritopsis nutricula as a model organism in my research project this year. However, I can't seem to find where I can obtain this species of hydrozoan.

I have checked the following sites with no avail:

http://gulfspecimen.org/catalog/index.html
http://www.mbl.edu/marine_org/marine_supply.html
http://sargentwelch.com/animals/
http://www.freshmarine.com/
http://www.catalogueoflife.org/info_about_col.php
http://www.carolina.com/

Does anybody know where I can acquire one of these (aside from catching it on my own).

Thanks!

Hi Mr. Tomlinson,

Thanks for the link! I checked Jacks aquarium and pets, and I don't think they have them as a regular stock pet. Besides, the store in question is in Ohio, and shipping it here would be extremely difficult. I also looked for it on http://www.carolina.com/ as mentioned earlier, but they don't have it either.

Thanks,
-Eric
