Growing a Soil Menagerie

Post by deleted-36142 »

To Whom It May Concern:

I am doing my science project on Growing a Soil Menagerie and I would like to ask this question as required by my 6th grade Science teacher, Why do certain additives create the layering effect?

Also, my teacher is making me list your name, professional title or job description, your work phone number, and address. If you can list all those things that would be awesome.

Please reply as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi! This sounds like a really exciting project! In order to answer your question, I used an internet search to find out more about the bacteria that would grow in the Winogradsky Column. Among the great websites I found are this one, which answers your question very well. http://www.biology.ed.ac.uk/research/gr ... nograd.htm

I am not sure whay you would need my personal information, other than my name (Tonya) and that I work here as a volunteer expert on Science Buddies. I'll ask the admin team what the policy is on this type of question, though.

Dear Nick,

That sounds like a very interesting project. I am actually a student "expert" so you would not be interested in my job description. Also, it is the policy of this website not to list the experts' personal information. However, we would be more than happy to help you with your project.

The following links explain soil layering, and the use of auxins to help with the effect.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auxin

If you need someone who can supply you with personal information, try looking up professors at your local university in Environmental Science or Biology Plant Science departments. Often professors are willing to be helpful to interested young students.

Good luck!

Hi,

Michelle is right--Experts are prohibited from posting their personal information on the boards, as are students. Please see this link: http://www.sciencebuddies.com/science-f ... =25&t=4489 for information on our interview policy.

Thank you Michelle for telling me that. I printed it out and will give it to my teacher so she can read and not ask that from students next year.

Thanks for helping me,

Nick

Thank you for all your help and I'm sorry that I asked you about your personal information. My teacher said that we had to list that. I printed out that paper that said you couldn't give me your information and I will be showing her that tomorrow.
