Re: Hydroponics
Have you tried going to a garden store and asking them? They may be able to tell you. If they can't, I would suggest calling the companies who make hydroponics nutrients. Explain that you are doing a science fair project and what information you need. Unfortunately, I simply don't know the exact chemical composition of different brands of hydroponics 'fertilizers'. Note that these companies may keep these formulas secret, but they should at least be able to answer questions about the N:P ratio, etc.
Sorry I can't be of more help!

Re: Hydroponics
MelissaB is right. If your local garden store doesn't know how much of each nutrient is in the fertilizer you should call the fertilizer companies. MelissaB is also right that the companies might not tell you how much of every compound is in the fertilizer, but they may tell you the ratios. I've experienced this in the past, not with fertizlier, but with other chemicals. Once you figure out the ratios, you may be able to figure out how much of each chemical there is. For example, lets say that the fertilizer package says that 100g of fertilizer should be used per plant. Then the chemical company says that nitrogen rich compounds are at a ratio of 3 to 10 in the fertilizer by weight. Then you would know that for each plant, there are about 30g of nitrogen compounds. This is just an example...I don't really know any of the ratios or amounts of fertilizer.

Re: Hydroponics
you should probably go to your local garden store (or someplace like the home depot or lowes) and look for fertilizers that matche the type of plants you want to test. Scotts and miracle grow are, I think, one of the largest fertilizer producers. I'm not really that into gardening, so I don't really know a lot of other brands. You should probably just google fertilizers for the type of plants you are using and see what comes up. Then call the technical support part of the fertilizer company.
