- Project Question: My son planned to do a project to see what resulted in the most effective washing of germs from hands. Variables are water temperature (hot, warm, cold) and soap (yes or no). Controls are no washing and sanitizer. We are looking for ideas on how to ensure we start each test with the same level of germs (on dirty hands) and then how to measure the resulting germs (on washed hands). Do you have any ideas? Thanks.

Need Germs for Science Project
My son planned to do a science project to determine the most effective handwashing. Variables are water temperativfe (hot, warm and cold) and soap (yes or no). He needs advice on how to ensure each test begins with the same level of germs (on dirty hands) and how to measure the resulting germs (on washed hands). Your guidance is appreciated. His project is due in two weeks.

Re: Need Germs for Science Project
Hi,
If you take a look at the microbiology section of Science Buddies' science fair project guide, here: http://sciencebuddies.com/science-fair- ... l?From=Tab , you should find everything you need to know about culturing and counting bacteria. You will need some equipment, though (such as agar plates) that you will want to order ASAP in order to complete the experiment in two weeks.
Good luck!
