Project Question: Experiment-Nanotechnology and water filtration. Using Linde Type A Zeolite (Zeolite 4A) to filter out "impurity" which is copper sulfate 5-hydrate and yellow dye #6. Question-If unable to get Zeolite 4A what is a comprable zeolite to be used in this experiment? I am finding may zeolites but 4A is not available through the sites I have been working with.

Zeolites

Post by Dragonlady »

Working on a water filtration experiment with zeolite 4A but having trouble getting the zeolite. There are many other zeolites but need one that is similar to 4A. Filtering out CuSO4 5-hydrate and yellow #6. Suggestions for similar zeolites to zeolite 4A?

Hi

Zeolite 4A is readily available, so why look for a substiture. One suppllier is Sigma Aldrich, which has it in stock and will sell it in laboratory quantities. Here is the datasheet, which also describes other related molecular seives:

Here are other suppliers:

Here is a material data safety sheet:

You may need to order through your school or mentor’s laboratory, as all these companies have policies against shipping to residential addresses. Good luck and have a great project!

Best regards,

Hi

Barrett has given a very comprehensive list of references. Couple of years ago I worked with NZ 76 Zeolite. You can also refer to these websites:
http://www.bpmnz.com
You can find descriptions of zeolite minerals at the website of the International Zeolite Association: http://www.iza.org
This is an Australian site : http://www.cmzeolites.com.au/index.html

If you have specific questions about Zeolites properties, characteristics , availability etc. you can also email them and they are very prompt in responding.

Best
