I should have started my project way sooner but I'm kind of late. Anyways I've been searching like crazy to find a good environmental project and the only thing I have an idea for is phytoremediation. Now I'm having trouble because I have no clue how I'm going to get this kind of project done or in time. So I would like some help with either some suggestions of very original environmental science project ideas or I would like some help with my phytoremediation which I would prefer.
For the phytoremediation I have some things that I need to know.
-What plants I can use
-How long would it take to grow them cause I only have 2 months
-what pollutant can I use
-And what do I use to read the amount of pollutant in the plant
Thank you so much in advance, I'm kind of desperate so any help is appreciated.
Phytoremediation help?

Re: Phytoremediation help?
Hello,
I would suggest checking out the environmental science section on the science buddies page for some ideas:
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ?ia=EnvSci
Also, here is another link that might be helpful to you:
http://www.juliantrubin.com/fairproject ... ation.html
This should give you some ideas of what you might want to focus on for a project and the kind of equipment is involved. There are several sample project descriptions.
Once you decide on a project area then we can go from there.
Hope this helps,
Mary

Unfortunately, I've checked through those both many times and I haven't found out anything in particular.

Re: Phytoremediation help?
All i really need to know is if there is anyway to test soil for petroleum, hydrocarbons, Aluminum, Zinc, Cadmium, or maybe others. At the moment petroleum and hydrocarbons would be the best, unfortunately the only kit I could find is $625 and I find that WAY to expensive, I'm hoping there maybe something at my lab at school I can use

Re: Phytoremediation help?
Hi jesse,
We are trying to find an expert that knows more about this subject.
I found an article you might find interesting: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=w ... CkgkuFPVXw
The article mentions a kit that is only $50 to measure copper: http://www.chemetrics.com/visprods/Copper.htm
If you do end up needing the advanced equipment to do this project, you could ask a nearby lab if they would volunteer their time to help you get results. You could also find a mentor that is studying phytoremediation and work in their lab (though this would take longer than 2 months. You could always do something like this for your next project if you really enjoy phytoremediation).

Re: Phytoremediation help?
Thank you, that helps me SO MUCH! It was exactly what I was looking for because its quick, has a certain amount of skill needed, and I am able to measure, and obtain the copper. Once again thank you.
