Need Science Fair Topic/Idea

Hey guys,

I am a student in the 9th grade. I would like a science fair project idea to be around the 9-10th grade. Not to easy, not to hard. I want it to get me marks, because I am competitive. I have literally looked everywhere, so I guess I am going to ask professionals. Yes I have used the science buddies resources and looked everywhere. There is no certain spot I am really interested in. My budget is around 15$, not to much more. I wouldn't mind building since I like that, but I don't want it to cost a lot or take to much time since I am busy with other studies. I do not want a simple topic, if you no what I mean, I want something that is going to make me win. Sorry If I get offensive or mean. . I have around 2 weeks for this project, and please, give me like a guideline and not just a question. I want those things where they tell me the intro, materials, hypothesis, and procedures. An example of something I am not aloud and asked my teacher was, How does calcium help our bones? I was to get a bone and use vinegar as an acid to get rid of the calcium. ( Leave it in a jar for a few days) - Anyway that was NOT GOOD, my teacher did not like it, and when I asked him whats wrong with it?, he said , " What are you learning from this?". guys I need to learn something. Now I don't really care if I learn or not, I WANT MARKS.

I'm afraid you aren't giving us much to go on to help you out. You said you've looked at some of the Science Buddies resources. Have you tried the project selection wizard? https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... gister.php

Give that a try first. It asks you several questions to help you identify a project that meets your some of these requirements you mention as well as one that strikes an interest with you.

Yes I have used the selection wizard and I haven't really liked what results I got. I need to have an idea by this Friday. Ouch xx.
Anyway, I like things like building, math, etc,

ANY OTHER IDEAS?( Examples of nice/good/easy/fast/mark-giving projects)

Sorry Hulk1337, I'm at a loss for what to suggest. The Science Buddies selection wizard suggests topics based on your response to over 30 questions. That's a lot more info that what we can gleen from your request here. If the selection wizard can't suggest anything of interest, not likely we can - given that we have even less info to go on. Perhaps if you describe some of the projects the wizard suggested and what you do and don't like about them. That may give us some ideas to suggest.

Some are to hard, some are to costly, some take to long, some are so simple teacher won`t allow.

Need more to go on than that. Pick the few that look most interesting to you and then comment on each one specifically. I can't suggest something if I don't know the specific objections you have.

Like mpphlipot said, if you've already used the Topic Selection Wizard and you've looked through the Science Buddies project ideas, we won't be able to help you much without more details. However, I quickly looked through some of our project ideas, and here are some ideas that match your criteria:

-They are difficulty 6-7, which is in the high school difficulty range, but it isn't super hard.
-Some involve building something
-They don't take long to do
-They cost $20 or less

If you grade yourself using the checklist at the end of each page in our Project Guide, you'll have a good chance of getting high marks. Just look at the sections under "How to do a science project"

Also keep in mind that if you really learn the information well, you are more likely to get high marks . In fact, if you are able to present your results well and explain WHY and HOW they turned out the way they did, your paper will be excellent. Just keep referring to your background research and connect it to your results.

Guess what, I've got a science fair, but now I need help with one thing, also I have to ask my teacher If I am allowed to do this, hope he says yes.

Where can I buy Sodium Acetate?


Please not online, eBay or whatever.
I want to buy it at a store or retail or something, I don't have access to internet shopping.
I live in Canada, Montreal, QC.

I would suggest looking around you for chemical supply or science supply stores. They might have some sodium acetate. You can also buy some handwarmers, which use sodium acetate.

Keep in mind that just making the hot ice will not really be considered a science fair project. In order to do an experiment, you have to test something.

Yeh he said I can't do it, he said I need something were I experiment and compare. These are examples he gave me :
1. On a Hockey stick, what angle of the curve is best for shooting?
2. What freezes faster, cold water or hot watar?
3. Which is the best soda cooler or something like that?


So any experiments like those you could show me?

Look above in my previous post. The link there is a science experiment that relates to the hot ice project you wanted to do, but you would investigate how the starting temperature affects the growth of sodium acetate trihydrate crystals and also track how the starting temperature affects the temperature vs. time profile associated with crystallization.
