I NEED HELP FAST!!! I don't understand Experimental Procedure #9 of topic "Factors that Affect the Transfer of Force through Saturated Soil" on the geology section. Do I pull the dowel with the hook of the spring scale itself??? How do I "determine the level of contact forces in the soil" with a spring-scale device??? NEED ANSWER ASAP!!!!!!!!

The spring acale is fastened to the dowel and pull the dowel out. Soil tube is verticle and dowel is horizontal. Record the force in pounds required to remove it. You should measure different pounds of force for dowels at different depths in the soil tube.

As you continue the experiment by mixing the various amendments to the soil, you will record differences in forces reqired to remove dowels at the different levels.

You are essentially measure compaction of a soil volume as a result of the pounding the tube on the ground. The experiment is designed to show the effects of different soil structures on soil compaction.

one more question. If it takes more force to remove the dowel, does it mean the soil is less compacted/more liquid-like?
