Dear Expert,
i am working on a final year project entitled " design and implementation of an autonomous/semiautonomous sensor based wall painting robot". i will be using rollers to paint the wall. since, the system is rare (i have never seen an existing model, to be frank), i am lacking ideas on how to construct a mechanism to make the roller follow a reciprocating vertical motion. i am considering rack and pinion system ( vertical) where the pinion drives the rack up-down.
is such a mechanism suitable for the project?
any suggestions?
thank you.

Rack and pinion would work, with the addition of motor reversing switches at each end of the rack. A crank mechanism (think auto engine piston, rod, and crankshaft) would also work.

Hi,
I'm starting work on a similar project. We're considering a spray system instead of rollers. I'm interested to know how the rack and pinion system worked for you.
Any suggestions or comments would be great!
Thanks

Hi dijee1000 and satanas,
I just wanted to give you a heads-up that the experts here are focused on helping K-12 (before college) students, and the projects you're dealing with are really outside the scope of this forum. But you're welcome to share ideas with each other!
