Can you please help me learn how to make a 10-22uh power inductor ?
Hopefully tell me what parts I need and what to do with them. .
thankss [:

- Project Question: About a USB charger that I will be making discussed here:
http://www.ladyada.net/make/mintyboost/index.html
What I want to do is have about the same concept but it would have another pair of rechargeable batteries, a male type A usb jack, an output and input plug, actually BE a usb flash disk, and memory card readers.
I'll explain more in a topic. . - Project Due Date: March 20, 2010

I'm a mechanical engineer, not an electrical engineer. Hopefully some expert with more expertise in this field than I will respond and will give you better guidance, but here are some things to get you started.
You asked about a "power inductor". You didn't say how much power. That's important. So first, figure that out. That will determine the size of wire you need and that will determine the general physical size of the inductor. For instance, if your inductor has to carry 30 amperes, it's going to have to be make of 12 gauge or larger wire. If you're handling the power required to run an iPod, you'll be able to use really tiny wire.
Once you have an idea of the physical size, you will have to choose a construction technique. Here is a link to a site that shows you several construction options, and gives you the formulae you need to determine the inductance of the design.

Good luck with this one.
