Hi everyone. I have been trying to come up with a science fair project for almost two months and I am not sure if the ideas that I have come up with are good or not. So if you could please give me your input that would be great! The top topics are as follows: "What is the purpose of iridescence in butterfly wings?"; "How does the serotonin in prozac affect the bones of a lab mouse?"; "If the GAP-43 gene was introduced into a frog embryo, would the embryos hatch early if their preditors were around? Would they stay in their eggs longer?";"Honey: the universal medicine or not?"; "How does caffine affect the gestation period of an insect such as a fly, worm, or bee?"; and "How does the chlorine within splenda affect the human body if it is consumed in small doses?"
Thank you!

Re: Undecided Science Fair Topic
Hi, while I cannot decide for you on which science project to take on, I can provide you with some points that you should consider when choosing a project.
• Do an online search to determine whether the project had already been done by others.
• Availability of resources (biological hood, incubator, etc) required for the project.
• Determine whether consents (project that involve human, vertebrate animals and biological agents) will be required for your project.
• The amount of time required to complete the project.
Take some time to answer those questions and it should help you in selecting an appropriate project.

Re: Undecided Science Fair Topic
I agree with the earlier advice, especially regarding facilities.
Many of the projects you propose will require a lot of equipment and/or animals.
More important, some of them would take many months to do correctly. In order
to achieve a meaningful results, you can't just test 2-3 subjects, so the studies
could become quite large.
You have a lot of interesting ideas, but perhaps you should start with a list of what
resources are available to you and then use that list to judge your ideas.
Best of luck,
Steve Binder

Re: Undecided Science Fair Topic
Just to add to what the previous experts mentioned, what makes a great science fair project an excellent one is if the student is excited about the question/project. So, I would suggest choosing something that YOU would like to work on.
