CONTROL GROUP NECESSARY?

My son is doing a project on which brand of paper towel is most absorbant. Would a control group be necessary for this type of experiment?

This is probably one of those projects that is "self controlled". In other words you could arbitrarily consider any brand as the control. The other brands would either do better or worse with respect to any property / test you try.
