Re: marine biologist question SHARKS
Hi there,
I think it would be safe to use a device that creates an electromagnetic field, as long as it was constructed properly. According to this Wikipedia article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ampullae_of_Lorenzini, there is a commercial shark repellant that utilizes a magnetic field.
I suggest doing a little more research on what's out there, and posting back with more questions.
Good luck,
Heather

Re: marine biologist question SHARKS
Hey,
A camera that worked by attracting a sharks electromagnetic field sounds like a good invention to study sharks...the only problem is making sure that the marine biologist stays safe at the same time and so is protected inside a steel shark cage or something of that sort...Here is what I'm talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shark_proof_cage
As long as there are precautions taken, this camera idea of yours sounds great! But as Heather suggested, it would be a good idea to do some more research on these magnetic fields and figure out how exactly they work and how they can be used to attract sharks...
Hope that helps!
