Hello. Well, the telegraph was invented to transmit messages over a long distance. Perhaps you can look at it from this perspective, sending a message can mean so many things. Is the message a personal note between family members, a business transaction, a weather report, news of presidential election results, what else?

Think of the telegraph as a 19th century computer a/o telephone. What all kind of "messages" do you send on your computer or telephone via email, facebook, myspace, text messaging, instant messaging, message boards (like Science Buddies!), chat rooms, etc?

I hope this helps. Please write back if you have further quesions.
Good luck!
