Hi,

Yes, I do have a teaching credential, although I now work in private industry. I volunteer on this website to help students with their science fair projects. The whole purpose of the Science Buddies website is to help with science fair projects.

Ariana,

I've split your posts into a new topic since they were unrelated to the previous thread. As Donna has explained, the purpose of this site is to help students with science-fair projects, and not just for general discussion.

First, you have to choose your own project: something that interests you, isn't too easy or too hard, and can be done with the amount of time and money you have available. If you don't have something in mind, you can use the directory of topics or the topic selection wizard linked at the top:

Second, you need to do some background research on your own. If you put "evolution" into a search engine, you'll find plenty of websites with information.

Where the experts here can help you is when you have chosen a project and started working on it and find that you have a very specific question. Some specific questions could be what your variables should be, how to measure something, or what scientific principles might explain your observations.

Great! Thanks to Amanda you have your own topic now, so we can work on your project here. Choosing a science project may seem difficult, but all of the ideas on the science buddies website are great and you should be able to find something to do. What are are interested in? Do you want to do a project on evolution? Do you want to spend a lot of time and do a prize-winning project? Or, do you just want to get an "A" in science.

Please let me know the projects that seem interesting to you and I'll help you pick something suitable.

well i have two projects to do one in bible and another in science.the one in bible i want to do on evolution and the science i want to do on the orange and what time did the orange die by the tempature. my bible project is due friday.and my other science project is due monday.

Hi Ariana,

Your project is due on the 14th? OK, you will have to work fast and stay very focused. Go through the topic selection wizard and pick out projects that can be done quickly. Then check and make sure you have all of the materials available. Here, I will give you some ideas.

Hi Ariana,

For a science project, you need to ask a question that can be answered with an experiment. The orange idea you have is not something that can be measured or tested, so I would recommend that you keep looking for ideas. You need to set up a controlled experiment.

Your project on dolphin evolution is not really a science fair project, so it is outside the scope of this forum. However, have you discussed how dolphins have evolved echolocation already? What about the fact that they (and whales) evolved from terrestrial mammals? Have you discussed all of the issues surrounding a transition from a terrestrial environment to an oceanic one (water balance, respiration, etc.)?

Melissa has given you some good suggestions for your evolution paper. Good luck with that project.

Since you have some major deadlines coming up, you need to carefully plan your time for the next few days. You should spend some time today selecting your Science project and make sure you pick one that you can get all of the materials for. Then spend Thursday and Friday gathering the materials, including your board, and planning your experiment. You can do the experiment on Saturday and complete the project board on Sunday. It’s important to start now so you can have a complete project done on time. Here are some more projects that can be completed quickly:

Excellent! It's good that you've selected a topic. Are you doing the ice melting project? What is the question that you will answer with your experiment? Do you have a hypothesis yet? Do you have a way to measure temperature? Since this is a science fair project, it's better to use degrees Centigrade. Please let me know if you have any questions about completing your project.

For you dolphin paper, I believe the Melissa has given you some excellent suggestions. Have you included the fossil record of dolphin evolution? Have you discussed the evolution of echolation? Have you discussed the relationship of dolphins to porpoises and whales? Have you reviewed your teacher's written assignment to make sure you have included all of the required topics?

hi ,ms.donna this is ariana and you on my science project i have every thing i need i am working on my project and i have good information and i will find out what time the orange died by measuring it tempature. and my dolphin project i have found out that the dolphin as a structure that goes back to 50million years that track where it evolved from. but they say that a dolphin evolved from a bear and a cat but where did it get its aquatic features from because those particular animals are land animals there had to be a fish in there somewhere. i turned my paper in and i made a 95% on it.

Congratulations on the good grade on your dolphin paper! However, you need to put some more thought into your science project. Science projects are best started by doing background information to find out what people have learned in the past on a specific topic. The information should be from scientific sources. You do not have any information that would indicate that the measuring the temperature of an orange would correlate to anything, so I don't recommend doing this project. You need a project based on a scientific principle. You need to design a carefully controlled experiment. If you had more time, you could compare the rate of decomposition of an oranges stored at different temperatures.
