Hi, I'm the guy who was doing the project concerning S-Waves, but the GEE software recommended by this site has stopped working. I've tried using it from different computers and networks, but I still receive the message that the CORBA system is down. I have contacted them too, but I am unsure if my message went through. I desperately need this program to complete my project, which is due in two weeks, and I do not have enough data to do so. I know that this is not exactly the proper place to post this question, but if anyone has any workarounds or updates on what is going on, I would be most grateful.
Here is the official website for the program: http://www.seis.sc.edu/gee/

Re: Global Earthquake Explorer is not working
Hello r10031994,
I just downloaded the software and I've gotten the same error message too: "GEE is unable to get a COBRA connection at this time. Would you like to retry or go offline?" and "Cobra is not available, GEE will now go ofline."
Their webpage, http://www.seis.sc.edu/gee/docu.html, mentions that it might be due to the way your computer's firewall is setup. But I tried removing my firewall and got the same message. You may want to try showing this page to your school's computer network administrator or if you are using your own computer set up your firewall connection as they described.
I followed their Contact link and set them an email, [email protected]. I'll let you know if hear back. Good luck!

Re: Global Earthquake Explorer is not working
So I got a response back from SEIS. See below. Which project are you doing exactly? There are a couple that use the GEE software. I recommend checking the project's Bibliography to see if there are any other resources you could use to complete the project. I beleieve this site, http://earthquake.usgs.gov/, may give you similar information to help you complete the project.
Hi
The servers at the IRIS DMC that GEE uses to access seismic data have been inaccessible for the past week. They are aware of the problem and hope to have it fixed soon.
thanks,
Philip
