the science of dance???

Post by crystalsky19 »

HI my name is Catherine and I am 11 and have a science fair in april. I am a dancer( for 8 yrs :D ) and came up with"the science of dance". I am planning to have a poster board or something and demonstrate a few steps. But I was wondering, is there any science in dance?? I know you need gravity(thats a given) and maybe rotation (another given) but what else :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: ? please help!!!

Hi,

You might want to look at these Science Buddies project ideas to see some ideas related to dance:

None of these projects are directly dance related, but with a little creative thought I bet you could adapt a number of them to dance. At a minimum the heart health related to fitness experiment is an obvious connection, and the one on conservation of rotational momentum has obvious dance ties, as does the importance of managing your body center of gravity during dance choreography.

Here are some resources on the science of biomechanics as applied to dance:

http://www.choreocog.net/papers.html

http://dance.gmu.edu/Syllabi/Spring%202 ... hanics.pdf

The above three links clearly illustrate how science is being applied to the analysis of dancing. Although they may be difficult to read at your level they clearly illustrate the connection between science and dance.

Be creative and have fun with this project!!!
