Help Required for Blade profile design !!

Post by Supersaiyan »

I am doing a project in which i need to design and build a fan which will be placed horizontally and needs to push air down .
How should i model the Fan blade ?? And what should be the Profile of the blade ?? I need to make the blade from Balsa wood and foam.

Welcome to the Science Buddies ask the expert forum. The experts here volunteer their time to assist investigators with Science Fair Projects using the scientific method.

Your questions sound like you have been given an engineering challenge project. If this is not the case, please enlighten us on more of the details of why you are attempting this project.

Have you done any research on fan blade design?

In thinking about a fan design challenge, I've come up with these questions that I'd be considering if I were the designer:
How many CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) of air are you trying to move?
How much back pressure does the design have to accomodate?
How many RPM (Revolutions per Minute) are you going to be turning it at?
How much horsepower is the motor turning your design capable of producing?
Are there any noise constraints?
Are there any size constraints?
What size shaft does your design have to fit on?
