Zero Emission House

Post by mf2010 »

I have a partner for this project and we were wondering how we should get started on this...we did research on solar panels and wind mills, but we're not sure how to get it together or what the protocol is. We know basically what it should include, but not much than that.

Hi,

This is going to be a challenging project. We can give the best advice at Science Buddies if we understand the objectives and scope of your project. Are you going to do background reading and then design a model of a zero emission house? Are you going to actually build a model house? Are you going to do a controlled experiment on a subject that could be used in a zero emission house? I will try to give you some ideas to get started, but if you need more specific advice, then please include more details about what is required for your project.

You need to start by doing as much background reading on the topic as possible. To give you some ideas on how to get started, here is a Science Buddies project involving building a fuel cell, which you could use in a zero emission house. This would be an excellent project to do, but it is expensive and the required materials might be hard to obtain.

Here’s a project on solar energy; you would have to adapt it to your project, but it includes good detailed information on the subject:

And of course, you could include a solar oven to do the cooking:

Here’s information on a windmeter; this project includes a model and good background information.

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p008.shtml

And, here’s a project on windmills.

I hope this helps you get started. Let us know if you need more help.
