Swimming in Acid: Understanding Ocean Acidification

Post by TeddyE »

I am doing the project Swimming in Acid: Understanding Ocean Acidification. I followed directions to make the Instant Ocean solution for my test jars and tested the pH level using the recommended pH meter. I also followed direction on calibrating the pH meter. I need help with getting the pH level of the Instant Ocean solution to read 8.01. My current reading is 8.58. I tried adding more water and added more Instant Ocean. The Instant Ocean people told me to buy a submersible pump, run for 24 hrs and I might get a reading of 8.3. Your directions indicated either adding more water or Instant Ocean to get a reading of 8.01. I am trying not to spend anymore money for this project if necessary. I need advice on which direction to take. Thank you.
