It sounds like you are doing a project on filtration. A study on membrane fouling would definitely be a worthwhile and important topic for investigation. Whey is a high protein, high salt sample that is challenging to filter and waste products from whey processing pose a potential environmental problem.

Here is a research paper that describes experimental protocols for investigating methods of reducing fouling in membranes. The sample evaluated was water, but you could apply the basic method to the whey sample.
