how do lipids affect hypertension?
that's the question that i'm conducting and i have no idea how to test it. i can't give my 'participants' any food, and my teacher was talking about building some type of model...is that possible? HELP! :/ thanks tho

Hi Bree,
If possible, you could contact a lab that has a mouse model and is currently working on lipids and hypertension. They will have ample opportunities for you to contribute to their projects, and in the meantime, they might even give you the chance to work on your project idea.
Hope that helps!

Re: how do lipids affect hypertension?
Hi,
This is a challenging topic for a science fair project unless you have access to a laboratory that is doing this type of research and suitable supervision. There are lots of restrictions on working with human subjects, but Sam’s suggestion to look for a lab that is working on this topic, is a good one. However, you would still need to be working in an approved laboratory with a mouse project.
You would need to confirm with your teacher, but I think your teacher’s idea is for you to do an engineering-type project and build a model to show how lipids cause hypertension. You would need to do lots of background reading so your model would reflect the latest research on the topic. Here is information from the Science Buddies website on how to do an engineering project as an alternative to an experimental project.

Since you are obviously very interested in this topic, you can start your research on the topic by doing a test tube experiment on lipids. Here is a website that describes an experiment using lipase enzymes.

You can also so a search for “lipase experiments,” to get more ideas.
Good luck. Let us know if you have any other questions.
