SCIENCE FAIR EMERGENCY
hi everyone! i just started experimentation and i was wondering what type of iodine do i use? 7% tincture, 2% tincture, etc. which one is going to help determine levels of saturated fat? also, which one is going to have a purple coloring?? i need help this is due next week on wednesay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure what project you are working on, but it is important to note that tincture of iodine 7% is a controlled substance now. It's on the United States Drug Enforcement Agency's List 1 list, which means sales are regulated and you may not be able to get a product that is more than 2.2% iodine for a science project.

Sorry for replying a month later:) the project of mines got extended by a lot of time. So basically, this is my project:
1. Measure 20 mL of each vegetable oil with a graduated cylinder.
2. Pour the oils into their respective beakers.
3. Put 3 drops of the 7% tincture of iodine into first oil, using the eyedropper, and immediately start the stopwatch.
4. Record how long it takes for the iodine coloring to disappear (in seconds) from the oil.
5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the other 4 oils
6. Do 10 more trials.
I'm using sunflower, safflower, ricebran, sesame, and corn oil.
i'm not sure with iodine tincture is going to have a purple color adn will dissolve into the oils.
