Different Materials for sound barriers

Post by snk99 »

My Tops is : How well does wood, plastic, paper, foam, tile and cardboard effect the level of sound passing through it?
My question about it is, is what is the best material for blocking out sound? Also what material/s do they use to block out sound in recording studios?

Hello and welcome to the forums!

This is an interesting project, if overly used at science fairs. I'm assuming your "question" is the question you are using for your project, because we will leave that to your experiment to discover. If you want to know more about recording studios, I recommend using your search engine to find out.

I would like to point out some things to consider when you do this experiment. Look at the density of the materials. Measure their mass and volume (and thereby density). Make your comparisons on these physical parameters, not just the "type of material."
