I need help finding background information. What I'm trying to ask is does, lets say, if you gave someone a key to sing in, will a male's voice affect the pitch? Or, would a child or an adult be more likely to hit the correct pitch?

I think the likelihood of hitting the correct pitch will have something to do with experience as well. However, your idea is similar to this Science Buddies project:
