Iodine for Vitamin C experiment

Post by ilovecookies34 »

I was wondering if Iodine Tincture BP 2,5% would work for this experiment: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... w&from=TSW
I know that it calls for Lugol's iodine but the ingredients are iodine & potassium iodine. Is this good?!

Hi,

I would try to stick with using Lugol's iodine solution, as it has potassium iodide and no alcohol, whereas a tincture of iodine is different; it has elemental iodine, along with salts that are dissolved in alcohol (ethanol, I believe) and water. It should be no problem in obtaining Lugol's solution, though, as it is available in some health food and drug stores.

Hope this helped,
RM
