Science
Hi,Can you please check my scientific report.
Need help with discussion.
and Conclusion.
Basil Growth in Different Areas!!!!
Aim- To determine which basil plants grow the best in different areas.
Hypothesis- I predict that the plant in dark shade (Plant B) will die quicker than the one in full sun (Plant A) and 1/2 sun and1/2 shade (Plant C).
Materials:
Greek Basil seeds
3 pots with holes at the bottom
compost
watering can filled with 20ml of water
ruler
soil
Snail and Slug Pellets
Methods:
1. Put same amount of soil into the three pots that have holes in the bottom.
2. Bury 3-5 basil seeds into each pot up to half a cm from the rim of the pots.
3. Cover them lightly with an eighth cm layer of compost.
4. Place one pot in full sun (kitchen window sill) Plant A, another pot on window sill in my bedroom (dark) Plant B and 1/2 sun and 1/2 shade (balcony) Plant C.
5. Water the Basils with 20 mls of water.
6. Measure the height of basil plant growth using a ruler.
7. Water each plant 20mls every day.
8. Measure height of plant each week.
9. Sprinkle pellets on Plant A.
10. Record results in a table.
Results: The original purpose of this experiment was to determine which basil plants grow the best in different areas. The results of this experiment were that if you put the plants in dark shade (Plant B) it wouldn’t grow much faster than the plants in full sun (Plant A) and 1/2 sun and 1/2 shade (Plant C) and it dies quickly. The rainy weather affected Plant A, Plant B and C. Plant A with full sun turned brown and died. Plant B also turned brown and died because it as placed in dark shade.
Discussion: In the experiment, the aim was to find out which basil plants grow the best in different areas. I had to overcome the rainy weather which affected all the plants and caused them to die. (Plant A, Plant B and Plant C) because it was over flooded. Snails were eating Plant a’s leaves so it also had affected the growth of Plant A.
Need help with discussion.

Re: Science
Hi Vicotria, I am sorry for the delay in reviewing this for you. You made an excellent start with the hypothesis, materials and methods and results.
For the results, you want to tell more about what happenend, but not WHY it happened - save that for the discussion. That's the difference between the results section and the discussion session. In your results section, give more details, too - give the data measurments you have from the basil growth. This is also where you will show your graphs of the basil growth.
For the discussion you will tell why you got the results you got - you can mention about the snail problem and the extra rain. You may also want to address variability in your experiment. When doing an experiment you want to have control over as many things as possible, so you can keep them the same. It seems like if the rain was affecting your plants (and snails), maybe you had them outside where you could not control the slugs/snails and the water level and the light. You could discuss this in the discussion and maybe tell what you could do different next time (use indoor lights and grow the plants indoors).
Your conclusion would then be a couple sentences summarizing the whole project.
This Science Fair Project Guide https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... port.shtml should help further, but let me know if you have more questions.
Good Job and Good Luck!

Re: Science
Discussion-In one to four days it stayed the same.Plant A in full sun started growing up to 0.1cm.Plant A in full sun was still growing up to 3.0 cm on Day 8.Plant B grew up to 3.1 cm on the same day.and Plant C grew up to 4.2 cm.Plant A in full sun grow up to 2.2cm. on Day 9.Plant B in dark shade grow up o 3.2 cm on the same day and Plant C grow up to 4.0 cm on the same day.On day 10 Plant A 's height was 1.2 cm.For Plant B its height was 3.2 cm and Plant c 's height was 3.2 cm. But on Day 11 plant A grew up to 2.2.cm. Plant b grew up to 3.2cm and Plant C grew up to 8.2 cm. On day 12 Plant A grew up to 1.2 cm .This was because of the snails eating Plant A's Leaves. The rainy weather also affected the growth of all the plants which make them turn brown and die on Day 14 and 15.Day Plant B grew up to 4.2cm due to rainy heavy rain .Plan c grew up to 9.2 due to heavy rain .on day 13 plant a grew up to 4.2cm.Plant b grew up to 5.2cm.and Plant c grew up to 10.2cm. The relationships between the basil plants were that they both grew with water.(Plant A Plant B and plant C) and that they were all affected by heavy rain.Plant A was eaten by snails. When the plants died they first turned brown. The pattern in this experiment is that some plants stayed the same.

Re: Science
Conclusion-Based on my observations from my three plants i observed that all the plants need water and sunlight in order to survive just like humans and animals do. An example of this was when Plant C 's leaves were shrivelled up on Day 6.This was due to not having enough water. On Day 14 and 15 the plants died due to heavy rain and snails eating Plant A.I found out the best place in my home to grow basil was in dark area.

Re: Science
Hi Victoria,
As Tonya mentioned, you want to say WHAT happened in your Results section, and WHY it happened in your Discussion. Usually, the Conclusion is part of the Discussion section.
You would want to put these things you wrote into the Results:

Hi Victoria,
Tonya already directed you to the Science Buddies project report guide (https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... port.shtml), which will help you organize your report into sections. Do you have a more specific question about formatting?
