Hi,
I have been trying to come up with a project idea, but haven't found one that I like yet.
I am interested in enviromental science, especially water quality, but I am open to any other idea.
Please help me find a good project or idea
Thanks!
Here are some suggestions for identifying a project. Remember that you want to narrow your topic down to one question, and then do an experiment with results that you can measure. When you're in the process of selecting a specific project, think about what you will use as a control for your experiment.
1. Call your local water company and ask to talk to someone in the lab. Find out what the local water quality concerns are. Is there a problem with fertilizer run-off from farms or golf courses? Is there a potential problem of water run-off from industrial sites? Is there an erosion problem? Then, do your project on that topic. If you need help, let us know what the problem is and we'll suggest an experiment.
2. Go on a walk along a local lake, ocean, creek or stream and look for a project. Depending on your interests in botany, zoology, or chemistry, you could select a project. Perhaps you could do a survey to find out if there is a high population of pollution-resistant invertebrates present. Perhaps you could test the effects of various sources of water on the growth of algae or bacteria. Perhaps you could analyze for a specific chemical in water that is in the ground water, such as sodium chloride, phosphate, detergent, or a transition metal.
It is good that you have narrowed down your topic to water quality. Now, try and narrow it down further. Specifically, what aspect of water quality are you interested in? effect on plant growth? effect on people? long term consequences?
I think that if you narrow down your interest a little more, then a good idea for a project will follow.
