Is Myopia genetically inherited? Does heredity affects the way our eyes are shaped which could possibly linked to Myopia?
Thank you!

Re: Myopia
Myopia is still under debate whether it is hereditary. Geneticists propose that maybe it is controlling structural proteins and not the defects in them (that would come from a gene making it is hereditary trait). A good paper on this is listed below.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20036825
I have read some other opinions that suggest myopia is caused from always looking at objects close up.(i.e. playing computer games all day or being indoors everyday) Basically not having anything for your eyes to focus on over 20 feet away.
Genetics do play a major role in how our eyes are formed but so far have not been proven to be the cause of myopia.
I hope this helps and if you need anymore help just ask.
