How to find BSL-2 Laboratory

Post by deleted-112347 »

Hi!
Is there any way I can find a BSL-2 (biological safety level 2) laboratory or anyone I can contact to find one?

Thank you!

Hi Karen!

Just piggybacking off of what Veronica has said. Do you know of any laboratories in your immediate area? If so, you can begin your search. Like Veronica has said, it helps if you have a project in mind, or at least a general research plan.

In many cases, your best bet will be to research and email mentors/professors in your relevant field. For instance, if you interested in cancer biology, it would make sense to email a professor of biology in a cancer department. That's just an example however, and many possibilities exist! Let me know if you need any additional help in your search.

Thank you Jason and Veronica for responding to my post.

I am working with a partner currently and we both have a project idea about the effects of pro-biotics on pathogenic bacteria and if pro-biotics are able to effectively slow or prevent the growth of pathogenic bacteria. If it does have this effect, we want to test the pathogenic bacteria to see if they can build resistance to pro-biotics like how they grow resistance to certain antibiotics.

Both of us live in Northern California near San Francisco, and we plan to send emails to professors at UC Berkeley and UCSF to ask for their guidance and their permission to be able to use their BSL-2 laboratory. However, I was wondering if there were other possibilities to be granted access to a BSL-2 Laboratory, in case these professors and unable to allow us in their laboratories.

Thank you again!

Hi Karen,
Regarding "other possibilities to be granted access to a BSL-2 Laboratory, in case these professors and unable to allow us in their laboratories"-- I do not know of any other way to be granted access to a facility like that. Have you sent e-mails out? Have you had any promising leads?
