I need some advice in wether I have a good topic or not

My topic for the science fair is Do dogs tail-wagging behavior show left or right biases depending on the stimuli presented to the dog. I do not know if there is something similar to this but more advanced. We also have to link it somehow to if it benifits humans in some way and I am very interested in doing an experiment with dogs so I do not know what to do. Please help.

Hi,

I think you have a great idea for a topic. Have you thought about how you would design an experiment to answer the question?

Otherwise, did you try our Science Fair Project Ideas https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... deas.shtml?

I found a few you may like using dogs (and there may be more):

Hi brandylovesme17,

It sounds like you are interested in this Science Buddies project:
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p014.shtml
Have you looked at the information for this project already? If not, definitely take a look! It will help you get started with your background and your experimental design.

There is also a project about paw preference in dogs:
https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p011.shtml
You could potentially relate this one to handedness in humans.

Is it a requirement for your science fair that you relate your project to human benefits? Sometimes pure science is beneficial because of what is learned, not necessarily because of direct benefits to humans. You could relate your findings from the tail wagging experiment (and the direction of the stimulus, which is an excellent variation) to how humans may react differently to stimuli from different directions (while driving, for example).

I hope that helps you get started. Please post again if you have more questions!
