Plants growth from different Light distances?

Post by Kristen00x »

Hi, I need to know what kind of analysis my project will have.. my topic is "What is the effect of a plants growth from different various positions of light"

Hi!

Ok...for this project there would be many ways analyze the data. You can show the height of the plant, thickness of the stem, number of leaves on different sides( light side and dark side), angle of the tilt of the plant, etc. There arenumerous ways. Hope this helps :D

data analysis

Post by Kristen00x »

Thanks for your help. But to be more specific... its about grass... and im measuring the growth of the grass... not a flower or anything else. I've placed my "grouped plants(the plants from different distances)" from a light source that is 10 cm away from each. From the results so far, im getting different measurements of the grass' growth. Would this still not be an approved/acceptable project to test?

Thanks for your help... its been very useful!

Grass Experiment

Post by surekhamuralidharan »

Hey,

Your experiment should work fine. I would like to know approximatly how much grass you have planted for each of the distances apart. If you have planted a good amount then the results are more likely to be accurate for your measurment. Also, you should try if possible to look for other factors such as if the plants are bending towards the light( however with grass it is hard to tell). You could also look at the condition of the grass or how much grass has grown in each of your pots or containers( if you have grown them yourself for the experiment).

Hope this helps! :)

Hi Kristen,

I'm a little confused by your post. I understand that you're measuring the growth of grass, and that you're varying the distance from the plant to the light source. But I'm confused what you mean by "grouped plants" from a light soucrce that is 10cm away from each. This sounds like you have a bunch of plants that are all 10cm away from the light source.

I'm guessing that you used 10cm as an example distance. Did you have multiple plants at varying distances from the light source? For example, 3 plants 5cm away, 3 plants 10cm away, and 3 plants 20cm away. Is this correct? If so, read my response below. Otherwise, please clarify how you're performing your experiment and we'll try to help you out.

Assuming that you've set up your experiment as I described, it sounds like you're concerned because you're getting different measurements between the replicates. In other words, for example, of the 3 plants that are 10cm away from the light source, one plant is 2cm, one plant is 3cm, and one plant is 5cm.

If this is your situation, don't be worried. This is exactly why you do replicates. You will analyze your data by posting an average with some additional statistics. For example, you could calculate the maximum and minimum, or you could calculate the standard deviation.

If you need help understanding what this means, please post and we will walk you through the process.

Also, if I interpreted your post incorrectly, please clarify and I will try to help you out some more.

Best of luck,

Linh
