Smaller Version of a Hovercraft? (Needed before 10/25/2012)

Hi, me and my group is trying to build a hovercraft that is smaller than specified in the procedure. So is it possible to make a smaller working hovercraft?
[*]If yes, any difference with the materials?
Is it going to affect the procedure or anything else?
[*]If not, what could be a good(and cheap) substitute of a leaf blower?

Hello JellyBean,

Yes, you should be able to build a hovercraft of any size. As you scale down the dimensions of the disk, be sure to also reduce the overall weight of the craft so that the air pressure can lift it.

You will probably need to find a smaller blower. Perhaps a hair dryer would do (running on the "cool air" setting) for a certain size range.

Hi, sorry for the very late reply. Just wanted to finish the first phase of the science fair then come back for more clarification and advice.
We are now planning how to do our experiment so, my group decided to use a small batteried vacuum and we're thinking of using a 12-inch hovercraft instead of the 48-inch of plywood in the procedure.
About the materials:
Is it possible to use a regular staple instead of a staple gun?
Any cheap substitute for an electric jig or a spiral saw?
Do you think it's enough to measure the type of surface on the hovercraft in five meters, or is it too short?
