HELP: How would I answer these questions? Variables

Post by sammycat »

:DA little background. My partner and I just started our Science Fair project. My partner just is suffering a concussion so she can not look at any screens right now and she has major headaches, so I'm doing most of this part on my own. Our project question is: Does brain hemispheric dominance affect how we interpret things(images, instructions, number sentance, etc.)? We are in grade 8. I need to have these questions answered by Nov. 19th

A. What variables will you control? How will you make sure they are controlled?
B. What will you measure/record? How will you do this?

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Hi Sammycat,

Welcome to Science Buddies!

I'm very sorry to hear about your partner's concussion. I hope she feels better soon.

You have a really good idea for a science project and you are smart to post your question early so you have time to develop this into a very successful science project. Here is a brain dominance project from the Science Buddies website that you could do, or that you could adapt for a unique project of your own.

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #procedure

Is this the experiment that you were thinking about doing? Or, did you have something else in mind? What is the question you are trying to answer with your science project?

For the variables question, check out the science fair project guide from this website for a complete explanation of variables.

https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... ndex.shtml

Basically, you want to design a controlled experiment and change one parameter (independent variable) to find out what happens. Preferably the result (dependent variable) will be something that you can measure.

I hope this helps you get started. Please post again if you have any questions.
