Project Question: I have a student doing this experiment that could not purchase the kit. Is there another kind of wire that we could substitue for the 22 gauge, magnet wire, enamel coated? Thank you. Mrs. Long, Ulm School

Is there a type of wire to coil instead of ceramic coated magnetic wire?

science2013 - Magnet wire as called for in the simple motor project is copper wire coated with a very thin enamel or varnish (usually only 1-2 thousandths of an inch thick) for insulation purposes. The wire itself is not 'magnetic' as it is made of copper or aluminum. I have never heard of any ceramic coating for common magnet wire. Magnet wire can be purchased at a local electronics store or Radio Shack location.
