Project Question: Our project is about gel electrophoresis and how it works. So basically we extract(?) dyes of candies through gel electrophoresis and compare.
And we are wondering what is benefit (necessity) of using gel electrophoresis to investigate DNA, RNA, and proteins.
Thank you^^

Biology question!!!

Post by deleted-132331 »

Hello, science experts!
I'm doing a project about comparing animals' cell sizes (nucleus area) and there's one part that I have to find 'C-value' of the species.
But I have no idea what 'C-value' is and why do scientists need that.
So could you tell me?
Thank you^^

Hi,

Start with the project ideas guide. Here there is a link to the Genome Database - does this help you? https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... #procedure
The wikinote (although not a good source in general, in this case gives decent background) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-value It is the amount of DNA in the nucleus. We need it because it is one factor in the size of the nucleus (has to be big enough to hold the DNA).
