HELP!!!!!!!!!!
I am doing a project from your website. I was wondering how to interpret the results of my searches. I have tried to use the Basic Protein Annalasys tools, but it always says either "error," or gives me useless results. I also do not know how to figure out the function of a protein/gene just from the amino acid sequence.
Can someone please help me? That would be very much appreciated.

Protein Function
Hi,
The purpose of this website is to answer questions for students who are doing science fair projects. I don't have an answer to your general question and seems like your topic is beyond the scope of a typical science project. Are you working on a science fair project? If so, what is your experiment? Perhaps we could provide some other information that would help you with your project.

Hi blubrrymufnz202,
If you can give us a few more details about what you have been trying to do it will be easier for us to help you.
Are you working on this project idea?

What protein have you chosen to study?
Which analysis tool have you been trying to use? the ones listed on the Science buddies website?
Some of the protein analysis tools require you to input the sequence in a particular format so maybe that is why you get an error. For some of them you can enter raw text - the protein sequence letters only, but for some it requires FASTA format which has a > and header. If you are using the CDD tool you need to paste in your sequence in FASTA format. You can choose to get the FASTA format when you download the sequence from Genbank - there is a tab at the top of the page where you can select this.
As for the "useless" results, it might be just that the software you used has some shorthand ways of explaining them - in which case if we know what you tested we can run the experiment as well and see.
try not to panic. i'm sure we can figure out what is going on with a little more information. it is quite a tricky project to do on your own.
