Project Question: I am registering on sciencebuddies.org because I will participate in the Science Fair next year. I have chosen to do my experiment on creating a water filter that can be used universally. One of my questions is what substances and impurities do I need to test my water for and what devices can be used to do so.

water purification/desalinization

Post by deleted-146685 »

Hello, I am in the process of researching my Science Fair project and I have chosen to do it on water filtration. My goal is to create a small, portable water filter that can purify any form of water, even sewage, as well as desalinize it. My problem is that I have no idea where to begin on how I am going to create and build my own water filter. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -kellycg95

Sounds like a good project!

A good place to start your research would be to investigate how commercially available water filtration systems work and what materials are used. You could then research the types of materials and how they work to purify the water.

Good luck!
