What would happen if you put A&W root beer, dansani water, strawberries, and watermelon on dry ice? What could I do to research my experiment more?

Hi!

Is "what would happen if you put A&W root beer, Dansani water, strawberries, and watermelon on dry ice" the question you have decided for your experiment? If yes, I think that's an excellent and interesting area of research for you to undertake. (I know I'm diverging a bit here) but just a bit of helpful advice for your question formulation - you might want to say instead, "what would the effects of placing different foods and liquids on dry ice be?" or something to that effect - a bit more general and clear.

A simple google search on dry ice and its properties may help for researching and forming a hypothesis. For example, I found that dry ice is a solid form of carbon dioxide; therefore, placing fruit on it often creates "fizzy fruit," or basically carbonates the fruit. You might find similar examples of experiments done in the past you could use as a base to build your hypothesis.

Please post back if you have any more questions!
Good luck!

Hi I'd like to aslo welcome you to Science Buddies!

I think you've done a great job brainstoriming experiments for your science fair project, but I have some reservations about using dry ice in your experiment. Dry ice can be very dangerous and may seriously harm someone who is uneducated about how to safely make and handle it. Dry ice burns skin, is very harmful when eaten, and can explode if it is not stored properly. So, I would suggest to stay away from the dry ice idea unless you are able to work with an expert during the whole experiment. However, this does not necessarily mean you have to start from scratch! Our Science Buddies website is a great resource for finding new experiments.

You can always refer to this site especially if you're having difficulty brainstorming new ideas. Keep me updated on your topic.

Best of luck!

Hi Haley,

Besides the ingredients themselves, you can research the science of freezing (especially when it involves different substances), and the science of carbonation.

Good luck with your research, and please keep us posted as your project progresses! Remember to post in the same thread, so the experts involved can track your whole project as it develops.
