metric measurements for "how well do disinfectants work"

Post by julie389 »

We received a note from my daughter's teacher asking how we would measure using the metric system. Other than the amount of disinfectant we use what would we measure??

Hello,

I think you are doing this excellent Science Buddies project: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... p012.shtml

In terms of measurements, your dependent variable is the number of bacterial colonies, which is not a metric measurement but it perfectly valid. You are correct in saying you will measure the amount of disinfectant. This can happen two ways: (1) volume (milliliters or liters) and (2) concentration. Measuring volume in milliliters or liters would be a good use of the metric system.

I hope this helps. Please post again (in this same thread) if you have more questions.
