Covert Kinetic energie to another energie

Post by firephoenix »

I was wondering how to convert Kinetic energie into another energie.
An example is like this: you have a car, maby a sports car, standing still with no brakes on and a on coming truck comming at high speed hitting it on the side. The car doesn't move. How do you canvert that much energie without letting the car move one inch?

Hi firephoenix,

If I'm understanding your question correctly (and please correct me if I'm not!), you are interested in transfer and conservation of energy and momentum. In a closed system, energy and momentum are conserved during collisions--they can be transferred from one part of the system to another, but the total amount of energy and momentum in the system is unchanged. I suggest reading through the links on this page from HyperPhysics, which gives a nice explanation of conservation of energy and momentum:

All the best,
