Science Fair four days away and need help!!

Post by deleted-201644 »

I just had a few questions I needed to ask for my science fair. I am doing your science project, "Where There Is A Charge, There Can Be Sparks." I have deviated from the original project some but most of it is the same. Some of my question were: Why does the Leyden Jar take the electrons away from the balloon? Why does the jar hold the charge? Why do you use the wire connecting the aluminum sheet and the foil of the jar? Please help me! Thanks!

Hannahpro - The simple questions you ask really are the essence of your Leyden Jar experiment. You should be able to research them to understand the science behind what you have constructed, or you have simply built a project with no understanding of how it functions. Here is a link to a simple understanding of 'static electricity' but I encourage you to look at several other sites or references to understand the experiment, write your hypothesis, describe your procedure and results and be able to defend and explain if you get a question from a judge at your fair.
