Please help me to choose a project.

Hello,
I am new to ask an expert and science buddies. I was searching some project for Google Science Fair and landed up here finding science buddies quite interesting. I went through several projects but yet I am not ready with a project that suits me. There are many interesting topics but I am confused.... Actually this is my first science fair ever and I want to know what exactly is a Science Fair. Is it inventing something new? Or is it researching or experimenting on a particular topic? Please help me.... My plan is to take up a project concerned with energy conservation or producing electricity from things..... But I need a guide who can help me with my plan and suggest me something which I am looking for..... Please help.
Thanks
Shivangi

Hi Shivangi,

A Science Fair can consist of a number of different things. Sometimes people invent things or just research an area, but most often I think it is performing an experiment on your area of interest. There are so many different projects that you can do on energy conservation and electricity production, that I don't think we can really narrow it down for you without a little more information from you on what you are thinking. Have you searched through our list of science fair projects? You can search for project ideas on electricity for example and get results ranging from using microbial fuel cells to create electricity from waste to lighting up a lightbulb with play-dough. You can search for interesting projects here: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/science- ... deas.shtml and then brainstorm ways to go further than these projects and make them yours. It sounds like you are interested in the Google Science Fair, and they also have a website that allows you to search for project ideas that might be useful for you. https://www.googlesciencefair.com/springboard/en/

Once you have narrowed down your idea a little more, feel free to post again and we will be happy to help guide you and provide feedback on your project. One note, depending on the exact project you choose, you might have better success posting in our "Physical Sciences" forum rather than the Life Sciences one, but again, it really depends on what you end up choosing.

I hope this helps, and please do post again with any further questions.

Thanks JMP.
I went through the idea spring board of Google Science Fair but found out that there are only websites or blogs which contain information about a particular topic and no specific ideas about any project. Anyways.... I have searched a lot on Science Buddies but I want to do such an experiment which has never been done i.e. I want to invent something new. I am thinking about it... But thanks for your response.
Thanks

Hi Shivangi,

JMP already gave you an excellent overview of science fairs as well as some very good advice. I would like to add that I think it's really awesome that you want to do something that hasn't been done before because that's what science and discovery is all about! However, I would encourage you to talk with other experts on the physical sciences forum as you are brainstorming your ideas because some of the experts may likely know a lot about the topic you're trying to pursue, and so they can give you some very good advice as to how to set up an experiment to answer your question. Furthermore, if there's really no experiment to address your question, they can also give you ideas on other things that are more easily testable.

Best of luck!
