Phytotoxicity and Plants

Hello All!
I have a new project, and I'm doing it on the effects of bleach/shampoo on plants. Specifically, the degree phytotoxicity of these variables. Mineral salts/ZnO are what makes these variables phytotoxic, but i was wondering why these substances phytotoxic? (like chemically speaking) Is it because it effects pH or what?

I found some papers, but they require an institutional subscription or to pay to see the articles. Do you have access to a library that subscribes to these journals?
