What are some ways to measure the dispersion of energy? Specifically ballistics, the dispersion of energy from a bullet in a bulletproof plate.

Hi VPChonkria,

The kinetic energy of the bullet is 1/2*mass of bullet*(velocity of bullet)^2. When the bullet hits the bulletproof plate, some of that kinetic energy goes into deforming the bullet and plate and other parts of that energy get converted to heat. I read your other post about your design for a bulletproof vest. (Incidentally, I also share the safely concerns raised by the other Expert). Are you interested in trying to quantify how the initial energy of the bullet is dispersed among any fragments that form during the collision? Or are you thinking of energy dispersion in another sense?
All the best,
Terik
