Food Inflammation
I want to do an experiment on which foods cause inflammation, like sugar, dairy and fat, but I don't know how I would test it? Does anyone know how I could conduct an experiment to test which foods cause inflammation?

Re: Food Inflammation
Hi szell007,
Great Idea! I did some research on foods and inflammations, here is a study that I found might be helpful: https://www.fredhutch.org/en/labs/phs/p ... ation.html
However, this project might require test results from a clinics which you may or may not be able to access.
However, if you are interested in food and how they affect human health you can look through the science buddies project ideas to get more ideas. I suggest you take a look through project ideas relating to Nutrition and health.
It would be great if some other experts have other ideas they could suggest.
Good Luck on your project and let us know if you need any more help.

Re: Food Inflammation
Hi,
This is definitely an interesting idea for a project, and maybe there are a couple ways you could modify it to make it easier to do. Inflammation is not an easy thing to measure, so maybe you could switch to measuring something like blood pressure. Blood pressure cuffs are easy and cheap to buy at any kind of pharmacy store. You could have your test subjects eat a lot of sugar and then measure their blood pressure in time increments; like half an hour, one hour, two hours after eating the sugar. You could use more people to test different kinds of foods. Try making a hypothesis, identifying your dependent and independent variables, and your designing your experimental procedure.
Post again if you have any more questions!

Re: Food Inflammation
Thanks for the responses. Kale your idea is interesting, but I don't want to harm my test subjects. Do you know how much sugar or dairy you would need to consume to get a reaction? Thanks again!

Re: Food Inflammation
Hi,
I do not know exactly how much they would need to eat, but I think a not too excessive amount could produce a result. Salt would also be a good food to try, it is known to change blood pressure.
