Hello my science fair topic is testing what antacids work best on acids. I am changing the active ingredients of the antacids. I need to know the PH level of these 5 antacids, I cannot find them anywhere. Let me know if you know, thanks.
1. Sodium Bicarbonate
2. Calcium Carbonate
3. Magnesium Carbonate
4. Magnesium hydroxide
5. Aluminum Hydroxide

- Project Question: I am doing a science fair project about antacids and acids. My scientific question is if I change a component (ingredient) in the antacid, how will it effect the ability to neutralize the acid? I am wondering what ingredients I could change in the antacid? I am also wondering if you had any other info than you have on your site that might be specific to my topic? Thank you.

Re: Antacids and Acids
Hello Granth2015.
I was able to find the pH values for the first two compounds listed on this website: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/bases-ph-d_402.html
1. Sodium Bicarbonate - 8.4
2. Calcium Carbonate - 9.4
3. Magnesium Carbonate - 8.5
4. Magnesium hydroxide - 9.5
5. Aluminum Hydroxide - 9.5

Re: Antacids and Acids
Also, if you are working with the acids, you should also considered testing the ph level yourself using pH paper such as this one found here http://www.zoro.com/i/G3933045/?utm_sou ... 7Aod1kQAlg.
This would give an accurate reading of your specific sample of acid.
