multimeter on the crystal radio

where do i connect the multimeter, i have it set to read DC voltage, it is a digital meter. and is constantly fashing numbers when it is not connected to anything b ut when it is ... it does the same and doesn't seem to keep a pettern, oh and when i conneect them to the radio i lose sound from te earphone. i have built the bottle raadio. (not updated one)
